Buying a used Lagoon: the 12-point inspection checklist

Sailoé's 12 inspection points on a 5 to 12 year old used Lagoon. Hull, engines, sails, electronics.

If you are looking at a used Lagoon between 5 and 12 years old, here are the 12 points to check before validating an owner-to-owner transaction.

1. Hull lamination

Visual inspection and tap test on the upper hull areas, below the waterline and the keel joints. Delamination is possible on Lagoon 380/410 builds from 2008-2012.

2. Keels and ballast

Underwater inspection, checking for impact damage and axis play. Lagoon 42/420 builds from 2012-2018 = points of attention on the keel fixings.

3. Yanmar / Volvo engines

Actual running hours to compare with the counter (logbook). Cylinder compression, head gasket condition, sea-water heat exchanger.

4. Sails

UV index, seam condition, furler operation, halyards. A mainsail that exceeds 2,000h of sun exposure should be replaced.
